As part of my magazine coursework, I will need to be able to analyse a music magazine using media terminology. Beneath i have made a magazine of media terminology that can be identified on the front cover off or in a music magazine:
Masthead - The Name of a magazine
Headline - The title of a main story within a magazine
House Style - The colour scheme throughout a magazine
Main Image - Image of a person, object or people that is associated with the main feature or article in the magazine. Usually in the centre of the front cover.
Sell-Line - An introductory headline below the masthead, describing the magazine
Buzz-Words - Words & Phrases such as 'Exclusive' and 'Plus', used to catch the readers attention and to help promote features in a magazine.
Banner - A colourful banner across the page with text that helps promote an exclusive feature
Pug - Are located at the top left or top right hand of the front page magazine. Are also known as the "Ears of the magazine", normally free gifts are advertised here to grab the reader.
Puff - A graphic feature that is on the front cover to make something stand out. Normally presented with shape around a text.
Drop Capitals - A really big letter which starts of an article
Anchorage Text - Text that provides the link between an image and it's context
